Her chain of office lies in front of her on the table. She picked up the medal yesterday with her mother at the town hall. As children’s mayor, she can wear the necklace during the arrival tomorrow. Berber Woertman (10) from De Cocksdorp knows that she will have a special role when Saint Nicholas sets foot in Oudeschild. But what she is going to do is also a surprise to her.
“I am going to participate in the parade for Sinterklaas with other children from my school and the other schools on Texel,” says Berber. She is dressed as a lighthouse. “And then something happens in the script that puts the spotlight on me,” she says.
Dress rehearsal
“I find that a bit exciting. Because you don’t know what they are going to ask and therefore you don’t know what you can answer. You can’t prepare.” Today she can take a look behind the scenes at the dress rehearsal of the entry. Maybe then she’ll find out a little more. “I really like that. Then I might know a little better what to expect.”
Either way, she’s looking forward to it. She has practiced a lot with her classmates on the dance and the song for Santa and of course she watches the Sinterklaas news every day. “I already watch that anyway, but it’s really nice to see locations and people you know.”
