Today in Meppel, students can become acquainted with a new course during the joint MBO open day of Drenthe College, Terra and Alpha College, ROC Mens Alting, and Noorderpoort. For the first time, the schools are organizing the open day together, instead of each separately.

The collaboration should make the region stronger, says Marijke Kompier of DCTerra. “We want to show how important MBO is and that as a student you can study in a place where you feel comfortable, regardless of which school it is. By working together, we no longer have to compete and we want to better address the shortages in the region.”

The courses themselves remain the same, students must comply with their qualification file. What differs is the way of teaching. “That makes your study unique and gives you the choice of where you prefer to learn. We are not one-size-fits-all,” says Kompier.

Fourth-year MBO nurse Cassandra, for example, chose the small-scale Meppel. “An open day is important when choosing a course. In Meppel you are not just a number.”

Cassandra’s tip for new students: “Wherever you go to study, be yourself and don’t be afraid to make mistakes.”
