AC/DC want to initiate the comeback of the guitar in a music world dominated by rap

A text from November 5, 2020.

Only one rock album made it to the top of the Billboard 200 charts in 2020. AC/DC want to change that. They hope that rock music will experience a revival and that the younger generation will pick up the guitar instead of Auto-Tune. An inspiration for this is said to be her new album, which functions as a response to rap.

First, bassist Cliff Williams gave an interview with “Loudwire” that he hadn’t even heard of the artist whose rock album has now landed at number 1 on the Billboard charts. By the way, his name is Machine Gun Kelly, originally a rapper, who has now dared to take a musical new direction with his pop-punk album “Tickets To My Downfall”.

AC/DC on their beginnings: “It was all too good and we wanted to do something about it!”

But what about all the other rock releases this year? “I think they’ve been swallowed up by the mainstream. Mainstream music, by that I mean social media, the ‘norm,'” Johnson explained in the interview.

And then he talked about how AC/DC got their start surrounded by mainstream music. “AC/DC started in Malcolm Young’s head many years ago when he was sitting at home in Australia. And the only music you could hear was this soft, gentle music. And he just said, ‘It’s all too beautiful, I want to do something about it.'”

And that’s what they did. However, it was never easy to assert yourself against mainstream music, says Johnson. “Rock ‘n’ roll was never a genre that the majority of people listened to. They never took it seriously. And I think it’s time for that to stop,” says the singer. The frontman hopes that people of the younger generation who may not have grown up with AC/DC will also listen to “Power Up.” And then decided to also learn guitar and form a band.
