As a German who plays in the Premier League, Vitaly Janelt has been linked with a move to the Bundesliga for some time. Now there are increasing signs that this will happen next summer. The 27-year-old’s contract with Brentford FC is expiring – and an extension is reportedly a long way off.

According to “Sky Sports”, the Bees are already looking for alternatives in the center of midfield because Janelt and the club cannot reach an agreement in contract talks. From January 1st, the left-footer is expected to negotiate with interested parties and agree on a free transfer next summer. In the recent past, Eintracht Frankfurt in particular was mentioned as an option.
Janelt has been playing at Brentford FC since October 2020 and was part of the permanent staff almost continuously until this season. However, after a heel injury in April, he was slow to get going this year and is still waiting for his first start in the Premier League after seven substitutions. In total, he appeared in 205 games (13 goals, 12 assists) for the west London club.
Janelt has never played in the Bundesliga. After training at Hamburger SV and RB Leipzig in his youth, he made the leap to professional status at VfL Bochum. There he made 54 appearances in four years and left the club with a market value of 675,000 euros – until a few weeks ago this was 22 million euros, before it was reduced to 20 million in the last update. In Bundesliga history, he would be one of the ten most valuable signings without a transfer fee.
