NAC last won an away match in the Eredivisie on December 7, 2024. Sparta was then beaten. At FC Volendam, the Breda team seemed to be on its way to putting an end to that annoying period after about an hour on Saturday evening. But once again she failed. What was even worse: two players received a red card and coach Carl Hoefkens was also able to intervene after a second yellow card.

Fortunately, NAC took the lead in the 32nd minute thanks to an own goal by Nick Verschuren. The defender was cornered by NAC striker Sydney van Hooijdonk. Henk Veerman and Robert Mühren, the ‘old’ striker duo of the orange shirts, erased the deficit within 20 minutes in the second half: 2-1.

NAC is turning red
NAC suffered even more damage. In the 54th minute, veteran Lewis Holtby was sent off. He stood with one of his feet on the Achilles tendon of Volendammer Gibson Osahumen Yah. Not on purpose, but in such a way that referee Richard Martens had to send him off the field.

A few minutes later, the wide-leg trousers leveled after an icy calm action by Veerman. Then emotions on the Breda side ran high again after Volendam player Robin van Cruijsen had committed an apparently serious foul. NAC coach Hoefkens, who already had a yellow card after the red for Holtby, got so excited that he received a second yellow card and therefore had to leave the dugout. Hoefkens later told ESPN that he only wanted to know why Holtby was sent off and Van Cruijsen was not.

Sixth defeat
From the side he witnessed how Mühren put the home team in the lead. That happened in the 78th minute. In the 90th minute, the frustration for the Breda formation became even greater when Fredrik Oldrup Jensen was immediately sent off.

Due to this sixth competition defeat, NAC is now fourteenth with twelve points.
