Former world champion Daniele De Rossi takes up his second coaching position in Serie A. The 42-year-old has signed a contract with Genoa CFC until the end of the season with an option for a further season.

The Ligurians parted ways with Patrick Vieira a week ago. Under the Frenchman, the traditional club had only got three points from the first nine games and were still waiting for their first win in the league – never before had they had fewer points in their account at the same time. The interim duo of Roberto Murgita and former captain Domenico Criscito then led the team to victory against newly promoted US Sassuolo (2:1).

De Rossi coached the then second division team SPAL in 2022/23; it was the first stop in his career as a trainer. In 2024, he returned to his hometown club AS Roma as coach in January, but was fired after the botched start to the 2024/25 season. He scored an average of 1.70 points from 30 games.
