Around 4.15 am the fire brigade received a report of a fire in the Safrana supermarket on De Vriesplein.
All residents of the eight homes above the supermarket were removed from their homes by the fire brigade. The fire brigade broke open the houses where no one was home.
One of those homes belongs to Tristan, he says outside the door. He was not at home when the fire broke out, because he is still renovating his corner house on the first floor. “Luckily there was no fire in my apartment. Only damage to the door, but that is being repaired.”
Reporter Tom van Midden was in Purmerend this morning and spoke with Tristan on NH Radio. Listen to that below.
