Niclas Füllkrug is one of the most famous strikers in Germany. But there is another person in his family who loves the football field.
Scoring goals runs in the Füllkrugs’ family. Niclas Füllkrug is without question the best known of the family, but not the only one. His grandfather Gerd once stormed for Arminia Hannover in the 2nd league and in the DFB Cup, and also played in the regional league for today’s national league team OSV Hannover.
Grandson Niclas even made it to the top of the world. The 31-year-old is a German international striker and is currently under contract with West Ham United in the Premier League. In the summer of 2024 he moved from Borussia Dortmund to the London club for almost 30 million euros.
But Niclas’ little sister Anna-Lena Füllkrug also plays for a well-known club. The 28-year-old strikes for Hannover 96 in the Regionalliga Nord (3rd division), scoring 27 goals in 21 games in her most successful season for the club in 2023/2024. The top scorer missed most of the last 2024/2025 season due to injury. Shortly before the start of the season she broke her kneecap. Füllkrug has not yet been back on the pitch in the current season either.
“The girls are all there for me and I’m incredibly happy to be part of this great team. Soon I’ll be back on the pitch and score a few goals for you,” she said at the beginning of September 2024. Since then, she’s been working on her comeback to attack with Hannover again.
On the pitch she is very much like her brother. “Niclas is my great role model. He plays the same position as me and we have similar qualities,” she said in an interview with “fussball.de” at the beginning of 2023. “Niclas later taught me everything on the football fields.” Apparently with success, because her goal rate makes her one of the best players in the league – and she has a big fan in her brother.
“I always liked taking her with me. At some point she became better than some of my friends and then I liked taking her with me even more. For a woman, she has extremely good technique and can also move particularly well,” Niclas once explained in an interview.
Hannover 96 will have to do without this technology for a while, because it will take some time for Anna-Lena Füllkrug to recover. Lower Saxony could urgently use their goals. Hannover is currently only in ninth place out of twelve teams. After all: The lead over a relegation zone is eight points. But with a deficit of 17 points, promotion is a long way off.
