Arsenal FC has extended its lead in the English Premier League with its fourth win in a row. The Gunners won the London derby against Crystal Palace 1-0 (1-0) and are now four points ahead of second place. The winning goal was scored by former Palace professional Eberechi Eze (39th minute) from a free kick.

In the parallel game, Manchester City lost 0-1 (0-1) at the in-form Aston Villa. Matty Cash scored the goal at Villa Park in Birmingham (19th). The supposed equalizer for Pep Guardiola’s team by Erling Haaland (89th) did not count because of an offside position.

Arsenal struggled for a long time against the guests trained by former Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner. In the first half, the Gunners dominated the game, but rarely threatened the goal, while Palace repeatedly tested the in-form Arsenal defense with counterattacks.

The lead was only achieved through a standard situation: After a long free kick from Declan Rice, Gabriel headed it to Eze, who scored from around 13 meters. After the break, Arsenal missed the preliminary decision. Gabriel hit the crossbar with his head, Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard missed further chances. Crystal Palace, on the other hand, hardly had any opportunities, so Arsenal only had a narrow victory.

The Londoners’ lead in the table over champions Liverpool FC, who suffered their fourth league defeat in a row in Brentford and fell to 6th place, is now seven points. Man City, who lost for the third time in a row at Aston Villa, are fourth in the table, six points behind Arsenal.
