When both teams entered the field, shreds of paper were blown into the air in several places in the stadium as an atmospheric gesture. Many of those scraps ended up on the field, making it impossible to play football. First the paper had to be removed from the field.
“It is not ideal, but it can happen. If it had an influence, then on both teams,” said Van Persie.

PSV coach Peter Bosz thought it was good that the paper scraps were removed from the field first. “I even slipped in the dugout. And the players had paper stuck between the studs.”
