The fact that the building permits for the 1917 monument have not yet been completed is no excuse for no longer maintaining it, according to neighbor Ron Ottens. “The owner throws it at the municipality, but it is simply his duty that the church is preserved,” says Ottens.
Church has emotional value for people
Councilor Carmen Bosscher (BvDW) has been concerned about the dilapidated church for some time. “The question is why it takes so long for the plans to be approved,” says Bosscher. “The church also has emotional value for many people.”
In her opinion, the church is currently in such a bad condition that she wonders what can still be saved. “What will this mean for the construction project? While this is a great project in this municipality.”
Owner Patrick van Beek hopes that an unconditional permit will be obtained soon. “Only then can I start building,” says the project developer.
