Sam Rivers, the bassist of American nu-metal group Limp Bizkit, has died. In a message at Instagram the band writes in the night from Saturday to Sunday that they have lost their “brother”, “bandmate” and “heartbeat”. Rivers was 48 years old. It is unknown what caused his death.

Rivers was born in Florida and founded the band in 1994. The group was nominated several times for a Grammy Award and won a Billboard Music Award, among others. The number BreakStufffrom 1999, reached a large audience: the hit has almost a billion streams on Spotify. Rivers won in 2000 Best Bass Player at the Gibson Awards.

The band has made a comeback in recent years, after having faded into the background around the turn of the century – after the heyday of the nu-metal era. In 2023 the group played on the big stage of Pinkpop and last March Limp Bizkit performed in the Ziggo Dome. In addition to Rivers, the band consists of Fred Durst, John Otto, Wes Borland and DJ Lethal.

“From the very first note we played together, Sam brought a light and a rhythm that can never be replaced. His talent was effortless, his presence unforgettable, his heart enormous,” his bandmates said on Instagram.
