You may have seen the white bus from ‘Kat in ‘t bussie’ by Jennifer Hartmans driving through the streets of Zoetermeer. Don’t think that the bus is a cat shelter or cat transporter. No, it is a grooming salon where cats are customers and receive a royal coat treatment.

Jennifer grew up among horses, cats and dogs. “I’m always playing with them.” Her neighbor stopped using the mobile cat grooming salon and asked Jennifer if it was something for her. All the pieces of the puzzle fell into place. “It was a dream job for me.”
Congested cats
Jennifer started her career as a coat specialist with only a suitcase full of belongings. “I discovered that cats are very good at finding hiding places in their own home. I decided to also purchase a bus.” She bought, among other things, a chest of drawers, a changing mat, an adjustable desk and cupboards at Ikea. “My father-in-law helped with the furnishings,” says Jennifer. “The bus is catproof arranged so that they can move around freely, but cannot escape or hide.”
Put them at ease
Jennifer drives to the cat’s home address for an appointment. Once on the bus, the owner can come inside or watch outside through the window on the side of the treatment table. “I first put the cat at ease by giving it space and letting it sniff everywhere. I sprinkle some catnip on the pillow so that they feel relaxed. I want to remove all the stress, after which I gently comb the animal.”
By carefully combing the coat, she not only removes all tangles, but also gives the hair a nice shine. “After the treatment, their coat is nice and fluffy.”

Felt formation

Jennifer carefully combs the coat and removes any tangles. “Aging cats often cannot easily reach their back or butt. The coat may become felted, causing hard pieces of hair to form. That felt presses against the body, which can cause pain. As an owner, you cannot see the accumulated hair from the outside. I comb through or remove the felt until the cat is relieved.”

Spa treatment
In addition to a coat treatment, Jennifer also takes the time for a health check. “I clean the eyes, cut the nails and I pay attention to spots on the skin. If an animal is restless, I use cat toys, soothing spray or wipes to calm the animal down again.”
A kind of camper
It is ideal for customers and their cats that Jennifer parks the bus in front of the door. For Jennifer, her bus gives a feeling of freedom. “I always have my workplace with me and I go to many different places. I enjoy being on the road. For me, the bus is a kind of camper with which I go on an adventure.”
