The double ex: “With the Rossoneri I won everything, with the Viola I played one of the best seasons of my career. They are two teams that don’t wait for their opponent, the Devil for me is a championship winner”

At Milan “I grew and won everything”. At Fiorentina “I played one of the best seasons of my career”. Cristian Brocchi, commentator for Dazn and Amazon, played the match between the Rossoneri and the Viola for us.

Brocchi, what race are you expecting?

“Beautiful because two teams will face each other who are trying to play and aren’t waiting for their opponent. Fiorentina doesn’t have a good ranking, but they didn’t deserve to lose against Roma and they were left… with a goal conceded at the end of time against Cagliari. They lost too many points and haven’t yet found the right direction. Unlike Milan.”

More surprised by Fiorentina’s negative performance or by Milan’s excellent start?

“From Fiorentina. In the first few days of the championship, the Viola showed something good in terms of play, but Kean was unlucky and didn’t have a warm foot. Furthermore, the goals conceded from set pieces were too many: they affected the results and took away self-esteem and peace of mind. The team is good, better than their ranking.”

In fact 3 points after 6 rounds…

“With a little more luck it could have been seven: success over Cagliari was one step away, draws with Como and Roma were possible. With the arrival of a coach like Pioli, the team’s expectations have increased and the results bar has been raised. There are different tactical ideas compared to last season and the team has not got on well with the coach: some incorrect readings by the players have had an impact.”

Is it more complicated for Pioli to have Kean not at the top or for Allegri to give up Pulisic?

“Pulisic is the best scorer in the team, but Allegri has Leao… Kean has an important specific weight in Fiorentina and, even if I like Piccoli and he will have an important future, for Pioli having Moise is fundamental.”

Did you expect that Allegri would have made such an impact so quickly?

“Yes, and before the championship began I said that Milan was a potential winner of the Scudetto for three reasons: the first, Allegri, after a year out, has disposed of the negative waste of the last complicated seasons at Juventus and wants to get back into the game; the second, playing only the championship helps a lot when you are a first-tier team; the third, Milan have a strong squad which, thanks to the transfer market, has been sorted out from midfield up. If they had a defender of higher level…”.

“It doesn’t surprise me that he has had this impact because he is a wonderful player who has achieved important victories in his career: luckily he doesn’t win a Ballon d’Or… His career has been a succession of top seasons, twelve in a row at Real… He is one of the few who I would have seen well in my Milan: even now many have important technical skills, but he combines these with the character and human depth of an absolute champion.”

Rafa is strong, he just has to sacrifice himself and make himself available

Cristian Brocchifrom 2001 to 2005 at Milan, then one season with Viola and two more with Rossoneri

To be… like an “old Milan”, what is Leao missing?

“Rafa is strong and must understand that he can get where he wants because he has above average quality. He is someone who makes you win matches, but in a team context where everyone works for their teammate and sacrifices themselves with an extra run, he must make himself available to others.”

Milan can aim for the scudetto. And Fiorentina?

“A place in Europe. At the start of the championship, expectations have lowered, but Roma’s comeback last year teaches us. Pioli won a scudetto that he ‘shouldn’t’ have won at Milan and has an important career behind him. He’s good and will do well.”
