Bayer Leverkusen remains unbeaten in the Bundesliga under new coach Kasper Hjulmand and spoiled FSV Mainz 05’s next home game. The runner-up celebrated a 4:3 (3:1) victory, but in the end it was still in danger. Bayer thus extended its Bundesliga record to 37 away games in a row without defeat.
In front of 33,305 spectators in the sold-out Mainz Arena, the Spaniard Alejandro Grimaldo (11th minute/foul penalty and 45th+3), the new goalscorer Christian Kofane from Cameroon (24th) and Martin Terrier (87th) scored the guests’ goals. Nine months after his Achilles tendon rupture, the Frenchman was pleased with a successful Joker comeback and the late goal.
Jae-sung Lee (34th) reduced the deficit with Mainz’s first home goal of the season, before Nadiem Amiri (72nd) made it 2:3 with a penalty and substitute Armindo Sieb made it 3:4. It wasn’t enough for the frustrated Mainz team.

Thanks to Borussia Mönchengladbach’s 3-1 defeat at Union Berlin the day before, FCH climbed to second-to-last place on goal difference before their own appearance, which the team now maintained with four points.
