Britain’s Prince Andrew is giving up his royal titles. Buckingham Palace reported this in a written statement on Friday evening declaration. 65-year-old Andrew withdrew from public life several years ago, but has now decided to go “one step further”. Several scandals are associated with his person. Most prominent is the accusation of sexual abuse in the affair surrounding the deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
After consultation with his brother King Charles, Andrew has “concluded that the continued accusations” against him “distract from the work of the King and the Royal Family.” He writes: “I have decided, as I have always done, to put my duty to my family and country first.”
Specifically, Andrew gives up the title ‘Duke of York’, among other things. According to the BBC, he remains a prince because he is the child of a monarch. Andrew is the third child of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, who died in 2022.
Next Tuesday the memoirs of Virginia Giuffre will be published, she is perhaps Epstein’s most famous victim. Giuffre sued Andrew for abuse in several of Eptein’s homes. She made an arrangement with the British prince. Last April, Giuffre committed suicide. Her memoirs contain “intimate, disturbing and heartbreaking new details,” according to the publisher.
Without going into detail, Andrew wrote on Friday evening: “As I have said before, I strongly deny the allegations against me.”
