Jere Karalahti remains imprisoned.

The case of the imprisonment of the ex-hockey player, who was imprisoned on October 2nd, was discussed again on Thursday at the Helsinki District Court. Karalahti had the right to demand a retrial, as two weeks had passed since the previous hearing.

Karalahti has been imprisoned for the most probable reasons, suspected of a serious drug crime. He denies having committed the crime.

The deadline for indictment is January 15, 2026, and it is possible that Karalahti will remain imprisoned until that date.

Karalahti’s assistant Mikko Ruuttunen said that Karalahti would like to be free.

– That’s why this (retrial) was requested today, but the district court did not agree to it, Ruuttunen said.

Ruuttunen did not yet know or give an answer as to whether Karalahti will request a retrial again in two weeks.

– These are always reconsidered on a case-by-case basis. The investigation may or may not proceed, and many factors affect it. I can’t say exactly now, but the situation is being monitored.

On what basis does Karalahti demand release from pretrial detention? You can watch Ruuttunen’s interview in its entirety in the video above.
