Tennis star Ashleigh Barty said earlier this week that he would end his professional career at just 25 years old. The Australian was “number one” on the WTA list of tennis when he “retired”.
Barty began his professional career at the age of 14. He achieved the first Grand Slam victory of his career in doubles in 2018 when he was 22 years old. The following year, Barty was already at the top of the WTA tennis list.
Of course, Barty isn’t the only young athlete to have unexpectedly ended his career. Retirement is individual, but also species-specific.
Young ice skiers

Every year, young stars retire from the figure skating arenas, lifting their skates to the pound well in advance of the 30-year-old borderline laundry.
They are one of Finland’s most successful figure skaters Laura Lepistö and Kiira Korpi.
Lepistö ended his career at the age of 24 because he felt he had everything he wanted for his sports career, just like Barty. Korpi, for his part, suffered from a lack of motivation and ended his career at the age of 27.

One of the all-time Finnish successes in winter sports is Samppa Lajunenwho ended his successful career at the age of 24.
Lajunen won the combined World Cup in 1997 when he was 17 years old. At the 2022 Salt Lake City Olympics, 21-year-old Lajunen grabbed the win on every trip: the sprint, the normal race and the post.
Switched from a combined skier to a bald eagle Anssi Koivuranta ended his sports career at the age of 27. Koivuranta, who suffered from mycoplasma in his career, won the combined World Cup overall in his career, the Olympic bronze in the Turin team competition in 2006 and the following year World Cup gold from Sapporo on the same trip.
Multiple values of success Marjo Matikainen-Kallström ended his skiing career at the age of 24. He will be remembered, of course “Havuja, move!” exclamation from the 5-kilometer journey to Oberstdorf, but especially about his very successful career. He also won that Vitin viton in the end.

German biathlon masters Magdalena Neuner and Laura Dahlmeier ended their professional careers at the age of 25.
In his career, Neuner achieved two Olympic victories, 12 world championships and three total World Cup victories. He ended his career in 2012 in order to live a more normal life where sports would not be number one.
Dahlmeier, for his part, ended his career because he did not feel a 100 percent passion for the sport. Dahlmeier won two Olympic victories at Pyeonchang in 2018. He grabbed seven World Cups and won the World Cup overall once.

Lajilegenda Michael Jordan ended his basketball career for the first time at just 30 and moved on to play baseball. The reason for the change of sport has been said by Jordan that he was no longer amused to play basketball. However, he returned to the basketball courts in 1995 just a couple of years after his career change.
Lewis Hamilton as a combat and teammate at Mercedes Nico Rosberg ended his career after winning the world championship in 2016. Rosberg said he ended his career as he felt he had reached the top in the formulas. He was 31 years old at the time.
Who’s next?
Tennis star Barty’s retirement surprised many. The question then is, whose turn is next?
The superstar of the cross-country skiing world in Norway Johannes Kläbo is a 25-year-old multiple Olympic champion and world champion. However, he is missing from the prize cabinet a victory in the value race for a normal trip.
Also a countryman and namesake of Kläbo Johannes Bö28, has won almost everything in his career and would be ready for retirement if the motivation is not there.
Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis is on a high lift. Only 22-year-old Duplantis holds the pole vault world record of 620. Rima will rise to many more records, but when will the roof hit?
