Mats Hummels is still closely connected to the sport even after his career. On Tuesday he attended a basketball game – but couldn’t convince himself at the basket.
He is not only interested in football but also in basketball. Mats Hummels showed this again on Tuesday evening when he attended the Bayern basketball game against Olimpia Milan (64:53) in Munich. According to “Sport 1”, during a timeout at the end of the third quarter, the 2014 world champion took part in a challenge – and failed.
Hummels should sink three balls into the basket from the free throw line. However, the former Dortmund and ex-Bayern player couldn’t do that. He said himself: “It was a complete catastrophe.” As a result, he also lost a small bet he had made. He was previously asked by hall presenter Mitja Lafere if he wanted to take the bet and Hummels agreed.
If he had hit the basket once, a young fan would have received a Bayern basketball jersey at Munich’s expense. So nothing came of it – but Hummels didn’t let the fan leave disappointed. The ex-national player assured the little girl that he would cover the cost of the new jersey himself.
Lafere commented enthusiastically: “Great. Tell us whether cash or card, we accept both.” Even after the game, Hummels made fans happy and gave autographs and took photos with the supporters. Hummels also shared a video excerpt from the game with his fans on Instagram.
As a footballer, Mats Hummels played for FC Bayern and played a total of 118 professional games, as well as 42 games for the second team and 33 games for the club’s U19 team. He also played 508 games for Borussia Dortmund and 20 for AS Roma in his career. Hummels ended his sporting career in the summer of this year.
