Failure at FC Barcelona

Coach Hansi Flick will have to do without star striker Robert Lewandowski at FC Barcelona in the coming weeks. The 37-year-old Pole tore a muscle in his left thigh, as the Spanish champions announced without specifying any specific downtime. “His recovery time depends on the further course of the injury,” it said.

Lewandowski was most recently in action with the Polish national team in the World Cup qualifiers; the former Bundesliga top scorer for Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich scored the final score in the 2-0 win in Lithuania. Poland can still hope for a direct World Cup ticket, but Lewandowski’s return in time for the decisive duel with the Dutch on November 14th is questionable.

The attacker will definitely not be available to Barça in the coming games. This is also bitter for Lewandowski because he is currently fighting for his sporting future. The newspaper “Sport” recently reported that the Pole’s expiring contract would no longer be extended. The search for a successor has already begun for the Catalans around head coach Flick.

“I’m not saying I’m a ‘victim’ of my age, but… there are people who take advantage of that. I feel in great shape. I don’t expect to last 90 minutes in every game and my attitude towards football has changed a little, but when I’m on the field I know I can do great things,” Lewandowski said, according to Fabrizio Romano.
