At 37 years old, Robert Lewandowski is still accurate. Nevertheless, FC Barcelona apparently wants to get rid of him.
Robert Lewandowski’s departure from Barcelona is reportedly getting closer. As the Spanish newspaper “Sport” reports, the striker’s contract will not be extended. The 37-year-old Pole’s contract expires at the end of the season – according to the report, continued employment appears to be out of the question. Barça has therefore already started looking for a successor.
Lewandowski moved from FC Bayern to Catalonia in 2022 and is one of the most successful attackers in Europe with seven Bundesliga top scorers. He is also showing his finishing strength this season: the veteran has four goals in seven league games. Nevertheless, his age is considered a decisive factor in the planned realignment under coach Hansi Flick. There are said to be concerns internally because the striker cannot keep up with the pace of his teammates when pressing.
According to “Sport”, the Cameroonian Etta Eyong from UD Levante is considered a possible successor. He could duel with Ferran Torres for the spot in the center of attack in the future. Julián Álvarez, world champion with Argentina and currently under contract with Atlético Madrid, has also been linked to Barça. However, due to an estimated market value of 100 million euros, a transfer of the attacker is currently considered unrealistic for the financially struggling club.
