On the Grote Markt in Izegem, actress Maaike Cafmeyer – known as Chantal from the series of the same name – started the closing moment of the Ten Days of Mental Health. She revealed a large block of ice in which a golden bird, the so-called blackbird, was frozen.
“It is up to the whole of Izegem to guess when the bird will fall out of the ice block,” says Filip Viaene of Rotary Izegem, the organization behind the action. “A bet costs ten euros and the proceeds go to various charities in the city.” The campaign is already a success: more than 40,000 euros have already been raised. Part of that amount goes to projects that support mental health in the region.
