“Diddl” relaunch 2025 started in France
According to the company “Kontiki”, which was previously responsible for the distribution of “Diddl” in France, the proposal to re-release the cult figure came. The company contacted the inventor Thomas Goletz directly. The “Diddl” items are also being offered again in Wallonia, Belgium. According to the sales company, some of the 64 new products have already been sold out after sales started at the beginning of October. According to the “German Press Agency”, Germany will now follow suit in 2026.
According to Goletz, “Diddl” has fallen into a “sleeping beauty sleep” over the last ten years
In the 1990s and early 2000s, “Diddl” collectibles and exchange items were an integral part of German school playgrounds. In addition to the “Diddl Mouse”, the Hamburg native Goletz designed other characters: the “Diddl Lady Diddlina”, the teddy bear “Pimboli” and the horse “Galupy”. The range ranged from the well-known pads to stationery, diaries and friends’ books to coffee mugs, bed linen and school bags and developed into a lucrative merchandising business across Europe. In 2016, however, the artist’s attempt to reissue “Diddl” failed after production in Germany had already stopped in 2014.
Will the “Diddl Mouse” pose a threat to the “Labubus”?
The successful relaunch of the “Diddl” products in France and Belgium could be a positive sign for the planned sales in Germany and other European countries. The “Diddl Mouse” could outshine the current hype surrounding the furry monsters called “Labubu”. According to “Welt”, the plush toys from the Chinese manufacturer and retailer “Pop Mart” are currently being hyped by influencers on TikTok. They film themselves opening the “surprise boxes”, post the clips online and “fuel” the trend.
