Wilfred Genee causes astonishment with his murmur about the opportunities he gets at Talpa. His direct channel colleague Evert Santegoeds does not understand it. “What are you nagging?”
The latest episode of Wilfred Genee’s Podcast is more a kind of therapy session: we hear the presenter exploring what his youth was like and what effect that has on his current work. In this way he does not feel ‘safe’ in the hard TV and macho world in which he operates, and he says he plays a role in his programs.
“What are you nagging?”
Wilfred wants more his true I show and is disappointed that he is not allowed to make Talpa any other types of programs. That is possible at RTL, he says fine. That of course sounds the threat that he is left at VI.
Private boss Evert Santegoeds, who is sitting for the same employer at Shownieuws, says in his podcast Strictly private: “I would like to say: what is that necessary for? You have the biggest hit of Dutch television at the moment. Is that not enough again? What is he nagging?”
Even more Wilfred
Evert thinks that Wilfred is already doing enough things. “He is already doing so much. On the radio and then it also has to be on TV, even more Wilfred Genee.”
Colleague Jordi Versteegden: “So you actually think he is nagging?”
Evert: “I would just squeeze my hands with a success like VI that you have poured like that.”
Jordi: “Yes, but that man is 58 – I was shocked by that – and somewhere I get it. If you want to make a choice in your life to do something else … Yes, he now knows this trick from VI.”
“Trick?!”
Evert thinks it is nonsense to describe his VI work. “That is not a trick. There are talk show hosts in America who do that for 25 or 30 years, the same ‘trick’ as you call it, but you will not find such a ‘trick’ a second time.”
Jordi: “So you say: Wilfred just keeps doing what you do.”
Evert: “I would do that, yes. I do that myself. I don’t go to Elsevier myself. Or to Boulevard.”
Finally, he refers to the title of Wilfreds Podcast: as long as it is fun. “He should not mention VI as long as it is fun. And then: I actually want something else. No, I would find it a shame.”
