18 months lock for MMA star McGregor

Conor McGregor has been blocked for a year and a half. The reason for this is missed doping test. He recently declared his withdrawal in another area.

Campaign sports star Conor McGregor has been blocked for 18 months due to violations of the reporting obligation as part of the anti-doping regulations. The former UFC champion missed three test dates in the previous year without correctly storing its locations. The lock started retrospectively on September 20, 2024 and ends on March 20, 2026.

The UFC star recently speculated on a comeback at a gala announced by Donald Trump on June 14, 2026. According to the anti-doping program (CSAD), McGregor cooperated comprehensively and presented medical reasons. The two-year lock originally planned was therefore reduced by six months.

McGregor is one of the biggest stars in the history of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in the field of mixed martial arts, where he kept several titles. In recent years, however, he has not been able to build on old times. He lost three of the past four fights, and his last fight so far he played in 2021.

Most recently, the 37-year-old was also in the headlines away from sport. In Ireland, he lost an appeal procedure in a civil process for allegations of rape and has to pay the applicant around 248,000 euros. The IRE denies the allegations.

McGregor also initially run for the presidential election in October, but then withdrawn his application. The 36-year-old athlete is considered a well-known voice of the anti-immigration movement in Ireland and had to answer for sex criminal offenses in court.

McGregor said that his “commitment to Ireland” would not end with the withdrawal of his candidacy. There is a “very visible and loud movement of Irish patriots” that feels abandoned by the “Woken politics”. He also criticized the Irish electoral law, which provides for the support of 20 MPs or four administrative districts for a presidential candidacy. McGregor described these requirements as “democratic deficit against the will of the Irish people”.

In the presidential election on October 24, the successor to Ireland’s President Michael D. Higgins, who has held the office since 2011. Three candidates have already been officially confirmed: the left politician Catherine Connolly as well as Jim Gavin and Heather Humphreys from the two conservative government parties Fianna Fail and Fine Gael.

McGregor bears the nickname “the infamous” and is one of the most famous representatives of the martial arts Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). In March he was welcomed by US President Donald Trump on the occasion of St. Patrick’s Day in the White House.
