Frank Popp has been a big fan of Paul Weller since the 1980s. The musician accompanied him practically through youth and adulthood, from the first singles from The Jam to Disco dancing with songs from Style Council to admiration for albums like “Wild Wood”.
The enthusiasm for Wellers Hit “You Do Something To Me” now inspired Popp to record a song together with his ensemble and his colleague from the island. A premiere, because so far Weller has never worked with an artist from Good Ol ‘Germany.
The result, “Right Before My Eyes”, will be released on November 21. “It is an incredible honor for me to be able to work with this icon of music history with the” Modfather “,” enthuses the musician from Düsseldorf.

The piece comes from Paul Weller, of course, and unites his unmistakable voice and a wonderful guitar solo with the fat production of the Frank Popp Ensembles, which ended up a hit with “Hip Teens Don’t Wear Blue Jeans” in 2003 and already drew attention to the single “High Voltage” in 2001.
After it was quiet around the Frank Popp Ensemble for a long time, the band first published cover songs in 2021 and then the first new material for 17 years in 2022. The album “Shifting” followed in 2023, and in March an experimental and very colorful sixties-soul psychedelia plate appeared with “Waves”.
