Taylor Swift released her twelfth studio album the Life of a Showgirl on Friday, October 3. However, the songwriter has not felt connected to her previous record The Tortured Poets Department. In a new interview, she talked about why that is.

In conversation with Scott Mills on “BBC Radio 2”, Swift spoke about her new LP, the process of creating her previous albums and the “The Eras” tour. She gave insights into her current emotional state and reflected on her previous work The Tortured Poets Department. Never before, said Swift, a record at the time of publication has reflected its life and emotions as well as The Life of a Show Girl. What specifically means: Feelings of happiness about the engagement with football player Travis Kelce, relaxation during the tour break and newly found hobbies such as bread baking.
“I’m no longer unhappy,” she said in the interview, referring to her last record The Tortured Poet’s Department, which should have been shaped by misery, lovesickness and anger.
Life phase and work often no longer go together with the release
When The Tortured Poets appeared, the now 35-year-old was already in a completely different, happier phase of life than during songwriting. Swift’s latest work The Life of a Showgirl was created in the second year of the “The Eras” tour during the European part of the tour, she also revealed.
When Swift was not on stage for three and a half hours and guided through her musical eras, she traveled to Sweden. There she worked together with the producers Max Martin and Schellback on the new album on tour free days.
