There were repeated controversy around the Rad team Israel Premier Tech, and even a racing exclusion was pronounced. Now the responsible consequences are drawn.
The cycling team Israel Premier Tech, which also includes the German sprinter Pascal Ackermann, will start in the future under a new name. The management said that they had been decided to “rename the team and brand it new to break away from its current Israeli identity”.
The background is persistent controversy around the Israeli procedure in the Gaza Strip. In the past few weeks, the racing team had always been the goal of protests. Team owner Sylvan Adams, an Israeli-Canadian billionaire, announced that it would withdraw from day-to-day business in the coming year.
“Progress often requires victims in sport, and this step is essential to secure the future of the team,” said the racing team. Adams had already announced the planned renaming at the end of September. The name under which the team will start will be announced shortly.
At this year’s Vuelta a España, the team was affected several times by pro-Palestinian demonstrations. During the three -week tour there were repeated disorders, the final stage in Madrid even had to be canceled in mid -September after demonstrating barrier grilles had thrown on the route and had come together with the police.
The protests were directed against the Israeli approach in the Gaza Strip and the participation of the team in the tour. Also at the Italian one -day race Giro Dell’emilia, Israel Premier Tech was not allowed to start last Saturday – according to the “Gazzetta Dello Sport” for security reasons.
