The campaign was part of a coordinated operation of customs on 29 and 30 September, with several locations in the country taking place. A total of three illegal factories were dismantled: in Ledegem, Oostkamp and Merksem.
In Oostkamp, the action focused specifically on the production of Roltabak. In addition to the arrests, customs also occupied material that was intended for illegal production. According to customs, the fight against illegal tobacco production is desperately needed. “This year, customs seized nearly 150 million cigarettes and rolled up seven illegal production sites,” says Francis Adeyns, spokesperson for Customs.
