The application concepts of Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and Rhein-Ruhr for Olympic and Paralympic Games have withstanded the formal examination by the German Olympic Sports Association (DOSB).
As the umbrella organization announced on Tuesday, all four fulfill – since the levy at the end of May “Optimized” – Concepts the minimum operational requirements. This took the first step in the “three-stage model” of the DOSB, the concepts are now presented at the DOSB general meeting on December 6th in Frankfurt.
According to DOSB, the basis for the minimum requirements were either “Terms of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the international top associations or from the DOSB based on past and future games defined criteria“. This includes, among other things, that the travel times between the Olympic village/accommodation and competition are less than an hour or 50 kilometers or that 90 percent of the competition sites are or are temporary.
DOSB President Weikert: “Excellent work”
“The four applicants have done an excellent job in the past few months and further developed their different concepts in such a way that they already have the potential to survive in international competition”said DOSB President Thomas Weikert: “We look forward to the further process, at the end of which is the best concept for Germany with the greatest international chances of success.”
Weikert is satisfied with the work of the association he led, which is not surprising. Not all in Germany see it that way.
The decision for an applicant is made in autumn 2026
After completing the examination in level one, the four applicants now have time until the end of May of next year, “To further sharpen their concepts in coordination with the DOSB in terms of content and operational. By June 2026 you have the option of performing any referenders.
The final decision for a German applicant will be made at an extraordinary DOSB general meeting in autumn 2026.
