The FIGC president takes stock of the stadiums Euro 2032: “The appointment of a commissioner is now urgent”

Milan, the city that Federal President Gabriele Gravina defines as “the most international” in Italy, seriously risks not hosting the European 2032 Taking stock of San Siro Gravina says: “The Meazza stadium does not meet the requirements of UEFA to host the European Championship. The wish I feel I will do is that the political part, in agreement with Lorer and Milan, can find the best solution for Milan”. A solution without San Siro therefore that, at least in the current version, will never be able to respond to the 130 requirements of UEFA for the stadiums of the European Championship, but which passes from the new clubs of the clubs, starting from what would arise in the Meazza area whose sale will be discussed today in the city council.

ferment

As known, the Federcalcio must present five plants to UEFA by 31 July 2026: they will have to be structures with an approved, financed and can be checked project by March 2027. In recent months the FIGC, in close synergy with UEFA – represented by Michele Uva as an official delegate for the Italian organizing committee – continued to meet the administrations of the cities interested in hosting the tournament, last morning. And many are doing a great deal. Gravina explains again: “The positive ferment generated by the meetings that we have entertained with the 13 realities that have expressed interest is even outlining a scenario in which Rome could compete with two plants (the Olympic and the stadium that Rome wants to create, editor’s note), therefore I cannot think of Euro 2032 without the most international Italian city open to Europe”. Needless to hide that if Milan remained dry and Rome even showed up with two plants, for the Lombard capital it would be a difficult blow to digest.

strategies

We then review what are the 13 realities (in alphabetical order) to which Gravina refers: Bari (San Nicola), Bologna (Dall’Ara), Cagliari (Sant’Elia), Florence (Franchi), Genoa (Marassi), Milan (new Inter-Milan stadium), Naples (Maradona or Nuovo Stadio Napoli), Palermo (Barbera), Rome (Olympic/New Stadium Rome), Salerno (Arechi), Turin (Allianz). Stadium) and Verona (Bentegodi). At the moment only the Turin stadium meets all the requirements, but it is optimistic about the possibility that many other structures will be able to respond to the totality of UEFA’s requests. Certainly it would be important for the final accelerated the appointment of the famous extraordinary commissioner for the stadiums decided by the government and launched in the sport decree of August, also by virtue of the years of backwardness that Italy still serves on this front. Gravina also points out: “The appointment of the extraordinary commissioner, with the mayors of the municipalities concerned with the role of sub -commissioners, becomes more urgent and functional for the development of sports facilities in our country”. The Minister for Sport and the young Andrea Abadi has already identified a name and plans to be able to announce it very short. From that moment the machine should begin to march fast, thanks above all to the decisive role of the mayors who will have full powers to move in derogation of all those factors (for example architectural, archaeological or environmental constraints) that historically brake certain projects, reducing even the times of the various conferences of the services. Hoping that Euro 2032 becomes a stimulus to create truly modern and functional plants that bring Italy closer to Europe and the projecting in the future.
