There is a legend that circulates in the government since the first days of July, but that, after the palazo in Buenos Aires and the political decomposition that brought that result, began to take its own flight. It is about the back of the decision to disarm the Lefi, the instrument that the Central Bank had been using to maintain a large stock of pesos outside the market.
According to all economic analysts, that was the great watershed in the economic direction of the government: a counter -ram of what the ruling party imagined, around a third of that stock (almost 6 of 15 billion pesos) returned to the market, causing the tremendous that was then wanted to solve with a strong rise in the interest rate. In turn, this last decision was the one that ended up freezing the real economy, the necessary prelude to electoral defeat in the most populous district in the country.
That is why the anatomy of that moment, of the disarmament of the Lefi, is so central. And the story that circulates in the Casa Rosada realizes that neither Luis Caputo nor his staff were in favor of advancing in that sense. That there was a strong discussion between the minister and the president. And that the only word to accurately define the president’s position is “whim.” Something similar to a baby, who did not want to hear what his closest collaborators advised him and that, convinced by his own environment that he was a wise economist on his way to winning the Nobel Prize, he imposed his will.
The great novelty now is that even the economic team is not responsible for denying this story. And that even in that trench, the one that is supposed to be the last of the government, begin to find guilty about the Buenos Aires electoral defeat and the winding direction that the ruling party took since then. It is that even in the first ring of the administration they know it: the king is naked. And now everyone sees it.
Earthquake
In the early days of 1848, Legislator Alexis de Tocqueville rose from his seat in the French assembly to give a speech that remained in history: “We are sleeping on a volcano. Do not realize that the earth trembles? A revolutionary wind blows and the storm is already seen on the horizon.” The man warned his colleagues that he was coming a burst that was going to take them all. Very few days later a revolution exploded in that country, which was so powerful that he toured the world and even inspired a long beard German to write a communist manifesto.
On Monday 15, Santiago Caputo said nothing, or not at least in public. But everything in him resembled the defeatist concern that Tocqueville had almost two centuries ago. The star advisor refused to occupy the place assigned during the swearing of Lisandro Catalán as Minister of the Interior. A chair in the second row of the White Hall of the Casa Rosada bore its name and surname, just behind its enemy Martín Menem, almost as if it were an irony of the forces of the sky. It was going to be another chapter of this already official conversion of black monk to someone who goes up to the stage and participates in the “political tables.”
But Caputo preferred to stay in the background, standing throughout the act. You could almost say how nervous, tense as the cold greeting that crossed that day with the president. Those who know the strategist take a step further. “It is exhausted. Almost psychiatric: it goes from total anger to a deep sadness. But it doesn’t give more. It is outside the government,” they say. That idea of the next resignation of the “Kremlin Magician” went from being understood, a few weeks ago, as a clamor operation, a last attempt to impose himself within the government, to the mortal certainty of the end. And nobody knows what can happen after that more than possible exit.
The electoral defeat and the political crisis that undressed inside the Government preceded a series of defeats in Congress and an earthquake in the economy, with fired country and the price of the dollar, and fall in shares and bonds. That is why at any table in the red circle – and also the government – the talk is one: how long can the ruling endure? How long are the Caputo in their positions? What happens if in October has a bad electoral performance?

The correlation of the opposition’s emboldening and the bad streak of the ruling is that freedom progresses became a chaos in which everyone seeks guilty. The Minister of Economy and his own to the bad decisions that the president was pushed and especially to the course of the political strategy. The empowerment of Karina Milei after disaster in the province would seem to be the only certainty in the middle of this treasurer. He imposed himself before his brother, who wanted to throw the Menem and Sebastián Pareja after the defeat. At least for now: the versions that the president is tired of the president of the Chamber of Deputies, with which he never had too much relationship -the absence of a selfie between the two grows in La Rosada, a comedy step obliged in this government, proves it -and that in one way or another he wants it outside that chair for the end of the year. For now it is just a desire, the sign that the brothers do not always think the same. But the only thing in clear is that who has the last word in this pair is the youngest of the family.
Karina, in fact, was authorized in her shipowner. He traveled to Tucumán to a primely act with Menem -anventure that left a postcard sleeping on his shoulder at an airport, an image that ran like gunpowder in the internal one -premiered a youth libertarian group and stretched its influence towards the brand -new interior minister. There is there, in the intention to score Catalan on his side, a clue of what he intends for the government after the elections: enlarge their control over sensitive areas of the State, most of which are today in the hands of Santiago Caputo, although the security and defense ministries that Bullrich and Petri are about to leave vacancies. Faced with the doubt, “Lule” Menem already savors the honey of the YFP advertising guideline, the great tap of money for friends that the ruling party has.
The youngest of the Milei did something else. He forced the entire official apparatus to respond to spread a text that said “Javier is Karina, Karina is Javier.” That long self -election letter of the general secretary, which the Menem were in charge of moving, worked on several levels: first to show again who is effectively the most powerful person in the Executive Power, and second as witch hunt. The silence and lack of replica in the networks of that message by the caputist troop served, for the hermanísima and his own, as another proof that the star advisor does not play for the team.
However, one of the many things he has to regret Caputo today is that he is not even being able to control his own troop: several important accounts of the tweet libertarian world declared themselves in frank rebellion before his order to put a cessation on the fire to the internal war, a decision that came after a call from the president to Daniel “El Gordo Dan” Parisini, where he asked him for the same. @monstrungigante, a renowned tweeter who organized “muscular liberalism” classes -gym in the gym with libertarian line descent -is dedicated every day to throwing poisoned darts to Karina Milei, and became a new reference of the bases. For now, it is one of the few: the bulk of the members of “the forces of heaven”, who are fast to ask for bullets for protesters or the closure of the congress, are not yet encouraged to cross the red line and openly criticize the herman. But it would seem just a matter of time.
They are all scenes of government decomposition. The president no longer has, nor for his own base, that condition of Messiah who sees everything and that is never wrong. The sister is the favorite white of criticism. In the background it is cut, in the first ring of the government, a huge loss of confidence in the course and also in the presidential figure. In something all the sides involved coincide: the destiny of the government is played in the October elections.

Meanwhile, the rest of the actors also play. After the conviction to Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil, the vice president took a tweet that was performed on several bands. “It is disturbing that in America the democratically elected presidents end prisoners,” Villaruel said. In the surroundings of Milei’s formula companion they are increasingly convinced that the libertarian will not end in time and form.
It is not the only one. Those who talk to the former president say that this possibility is also at the sand table. And that he would not see with bad eyes the figure of the Cordoba Juan Schiaretti, who will become a deputy at the end of the year. The former governor arrived those rumors that leave San José 1111, and they did not make him much funny. Anyway, the truth is that this alternative end of the libertarian experience is something that is considered in any conversation. The king is naked and does not seem to be able to cover himself in the times.
