Another construction group is the pirates. Children will also be on their car. “We are building especially for children who have not been on it yet. People actually, because this year we also have someone who has turned 32 years old. He can get on for the first time and that is completely happy,” laughs Germas Noordenveld.
They are also building from May. “Since then we have been constantly busy two days a week, but of course the last weeks every day. It was debilitating. In the end it costs energy, but you’re talking about it.”
Four groups are working on their own car in the hall in Roden. One group is still busy puncturing flowers on a Cadillac, while the geese of the other are already completely finished. Each group gives its own twist to the theme. From fair to goose board or from record player to a furby, nothing is too crazy.
“I just looked at the weather, it will be a beautiful edition,” Kalfsbeek looks ahead. “It will be an edition that you say: nostalgia and homesickness. In ten years we will think:” That’s how we had it ten years ago. “It will just be something to write in the books.”
Tomorrow there are two parades in the center of Roden, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. Kalfsbeek expects the village to welcome around 50,000 visitors for the 59th edition of the event.
