Michel van Egmond broke his friendship with Matthijs van Nieuwkerk after breaking the biography about the life of the fallen DWDD star. “I no longer needed it.”
Bestseller author Michel van Egmond, who became a millionaire with the book about René van der Gijp, in 2016 in De Wereld Draait Door to Matthijs van Nieuwkerk, suggested writing a book about the talk show. The host promised, but it didn’t happen. Now, years after the fall of Matthijs, Michel still worked on a book. I walked again.
Friendship
Matthijs has suddenly withdrawn from the biography that Michel worked with his wife Antoynette Scheulderman. The confidence to make that book came from their friendship. It originated in the TV world. “And later you meet and Antoynette got to know him too,” he says at the table Eva.
The other is the other, according to Michel. “We sometimes entered the program, so then you meet and you go for eating occasionally. Not so exciting though.”
Dates
There was one clear condition on the table about that biography, says Michel. “I made a book with AntoNette more often, so the agreement was that I would follow Matthijs a bit and that would describe that and Antoinette would interview him. I would merge those two pieces into a book. The deal was actually that we would do that.”
“Actually, I had only one condition and that was that it had to continue. That was very important to me. I also sketched a scenario of: what happens if you get an offer to do something very fun and the condition for that offer is that you have to stop with the book, what happens?”
“Just keep on!”
Matthijs resolutely replied. “Then he said,” Then we will continue with the book. ” So we also started interviewing and going to hang out and write a little.
And then? “He wanted to put that book on hold for an indefinite period of time, but of course that was not possible with us and we had said that in advance. That shot a bit down the wrong way, I have to say honestly. Then the project was actually over.”
No more contact
Hostess Eva Jinek then points to the broken contact. “It did have an effect on your friendship. It actually ended that.”
Michel: “Yes, that’s right. That is a bit to me to be honest. I just didn’t need it anymore afterwards.”
Eva: “And if he would call now he wants it anyway?”
Michel: “A book doesn’t seem like a good idea to me anymore, no. That would be the third time we are starting, let’s not do that. But if he calls:” Shall we drink another beer? “, Then I just say yes. I’m not angry for that long, but then it shot in my wrong throat.”
Ask Eus
Eva then addresses her studio guest Özcan Akyol, whose friendship with Matthijs has also ended. “If the book about Matthijs had come, Eus, would you have read it?”
Özcan: “Certainly. A great presenter and a big biographer. I think he is one of the best report writers in the Netherlands, so certainly.”
Eva: “And a book about Jan Slagter?”
Özcan: “I have to think about that a little longer.”
