The musical about Princess Diana was crowned worst film of the year. Lead actress Jeanna deWaal received the golden raspberry for worst actress, Judy Kaye won for worst supporting actress and the director and script also received prizes. The film ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’ was the biggest “winner” after ‘Diana: The Musical’ with three awards.
The musical was taken down by critics after its release last year. The Guardian called it a “royal debacle that makes you hyperventilate” and Vanity Fair wrote, among other things, that it was a product born “of cold, money-hungry cynicism”.
Prior to the Broadway premiere, Netflix streamed a registration of the musical from an empty theater – due to the corona measures in force at the time. The show has been performed a total of 33 times on Broadway.
