Winner Jonas Vingegaard reacted with great disappointment to the demolition of the 80th Spain tour.

“It is a shame that we were taken such a moment of eternity,” said the Danish bike star: “I was looking forward to celebrating this overall victory with my team and the fans. Everyone has the right to protest, but not in a way that influences or endangered our race.”

Protests Pro-Palestinian demonstrators had caused a demolition of Vuelta a España on Sunday. The final stage was ended prematurely around 56 kilometers before the finish, there was no day winner. Vingegaard was declared the winner as the overall leader, but the ceremony failed.

“I am very proud of this overall victory, my first Vuelta and the third Grand Tour of my career,” said 28-year-old Vingegaard from Team Visma-Lease A Bike, who previously won the Tour de France twice: “It was three hard weeks. In the first week I felt very strong and was able to win twice. After that I had a more difficult phase, but luckily I came back last weekend.”
