False start averted: The football players of VfL Wolfsburg celebrated their first victory in the first home game of the new Bundesliga season against Carl Zeiss Jena with 3: 1 (1-0).

After the defeat in the Supercup against Bayern (2: 4) and the felt bankruptcy at HSV (3: 3), the team of coach Stephan Lerch was already under pressure. And that was quite noticeable. The “wolves” had to stretch against the clear outsider. Two goals in the final phase ensured victory.

I am just glad that we took the three points here. That was very important. We rewarded ourselves too late for a good game.

VfL goalkeeper Stina Johannes

In the end, the VfL women with the 3,420 fans in the stadium were able to celebrate the 80th club birthday. Stylish in the dark green-gold jubilee jubilee, with a choreography in the stands and with live music in the stadium.

Twice interior posts – big bad luck for Popp

The VfL had very difficult to aggressively aggressively against deep guests from the start. Three corners in the first twelve minutes testified to the visual superiority. The “wolf” could not earn serious chances for a long time. Lerchs kniffed with Alexandra Popp as the only center forward as well as Janina Minge and Justine Kielland for better game structure together in the central midfield did not work.

In the first 30 minutes, however, there was at least a great chance, which would have been almost 1-0. After the flank of Svenja Huth, Popp’s header crashed from one inner post to the other and out of the goal again (22nd). Unlike the late compensation of the HSV in the previous week, which in the end was behind the line, the goal was right.

MINGE brings VfL women in the lead

With continuous time, however, the pressure of the Wolfsburgers increased noticeably. This was not only read at the nine corners for the break, but also on the scoreboard.

And it was like in Hamburg Janina Minge who had her team cheered. The co-captain took a flank ball from Kjelland directly and scored 1-0 (42nd). Jena goalkeeper Hannah Etzold was one meter too far in front of the line, so that the ball lowered herself into the goal.

Dijkstra punishes, Jaron meets 1-1

However, the Wolfsburg women completely missed the start of the second half. At Toma Ihlenburg’s header after a corner that flew past the goal, they were still lucky (47th). A wake -up call? Not up! Because nine minutes later it was 1-1. Caitlin Dijkstra let her take out the game with a simple fint.
Isabella Jaron stood five meters free in front of the goal and did not leave Stina Johannes the touch of a chance with her massive shot into the far corner.

A deflected shot will cheer Wolfsburg

The balance then also had an effect. The hosts had a hard time finding back into the game – and the time was slowly running away. A free kick after 79 minutes could have used Wolfsburg for another tour, but Camilla Küver’s header came without pressure, Etzold packed it safely.

In the end, however, it was enough for the first win of the season. First, a shot from Cora Zicai was deflected to 2: 1 (82nd). Five minutes later, Jokerin Lineth Beerensteyn was too short back pass from the Jena women. The goalkeeper turned over Etzold and saved the birthday party.

Cheers at the HSV women, frustration with VfL Wolfsburg

The 3: 3 in the north duel of the women’s Bundesliga ensured very different feelings. Doubts about the late compensation of the Hamburgers remain.

Disappointed Wolfsburg players

The Wolfsburg women were inferior to the Munich people in all matters. In the end, the defeat was clear.
