The report of the first fire arrived at the emergency services just before 8.30 pm. A fire appeared to have been created in a basement box.

According to a spokesperson for the security region, a person had inhaled when he left the building. This person had to be checked by ambulance personnel. The fire brigade announced around 8.50 pm that the fire had been extinguished.

“Separate case”

Shortly afterwards, reports of a second fire arrived at 300 meters away, also on the Gijzenveltplantsoen. With this fire, a number of people have also been checked by ambulance personnel. Around 9.45 pm the safety region reported that the fire had been extinguished.

According to the spokesperson, the police are investigating both fires. He calls it ‘a separate case’. “There is 300 meters in between and they are the same kind of fires.” He does not want to confirm whether there is arson. According to the spokesperson, it was “just suspected that a gas bottle was involved in the fires,” but that turned out not to be the case.

How the fires originated is unclear. The street has been closed to allow emergency services to do their work. The fire brigade is currently packing. The police are still fully present and are investigating.
