Kevin Großkreutz became a star at Borussia Dortmund. Now the ex-professional is ready to take on an important job in the club.

Norbert Dickel has been a stadium spokesman at Borussia Dortmund for decades. But the era could come to an end soon. “I’m 64 years old this year. I don’t want you to carry me out of the stadium at some point,” said ex-footballer recently in an interview with “Reviersport”. “I’m slowly worrying,” said Dickel.

So who could take over the job of the former striker at the stadium microphone? A BVB icon at least reports to: Kevin Großkreutz. The 37-year-old emphasized in his podcast “quarter-hour football” in an interview with moderator Corni Küpper with regard to the job as a stadium spokesman at his heart club: “I would do it, people, yes! If you want it, I will do it!”

Apparently it is not a joke. Großkreutz is serious how he explained the “picture” shortly afterwards. “It wasn’t just said that way,” said the former defense and midfielder. “Borussia is my life. I would like to get involved.”

Nevertheless, Großkreutz also shows a lot of humility before Dickels. So he loved it as a player to stand in front of the 80,000 spectators in Signal Iduna Park on the field. “But communicating with them alone via the loudspeaker system is still a very challenge.” But he dares to do this. “If Nobby incorporated me accordingly,” said Großkreutz.

The former German international was born in Dortmund. He played a total of 176 Bundesliga games for BVB between 2009 and 2015. He was twice with the “black and yellow” German champions, once a cup winner. Großkreutz was part of the DFB-Elf World Cup squad, which became world champion in Brazil in 2014. However, he was not used for the tournament.
