In total, 86 Limburg (carnival) artists and other freelancers in the cultural sector receive a one-off allowance from the provincial corona emergency fund for the sector.
This involves an amount of approximately 348,000 euros.

Self-employed persons are, for example, artists, makers, artistic supervisors and light and sound technicians. The emergency fund was initially earmarked for 245,000 euros. But the provincial government also wants to honor all applications that meet the criteria. That is why an extra 103,000 euros will be earmarked for the scheme, Commissioner Madeleine van Toorenburg (CDA) reports in a statement from the Limburg Parliament.
130 requests
This also shows that a total of 130 applications have been submitted. The House of the Arts, which implemented the support scheme, therefore assessed approximately two-thirds positively. The rejected applications did not meet the criteria or there was insufficient insight into the financial situation of the person concerned. All applicants were informed on Wednesday whether their application was granted or rejected.
The cultural emergency fund is intended for those who between November 1 last year and March 27 this year have suffered a loss of income due to the corona crisis and have not been eligible for other financial support measures.

Majority Limburg Parliament
In mid-November, the arrangement was called for by a large majority of the Limburg Parliament. Carnival artists were explicitly mentioned. Earlier, D66, GroenLinks, PvdA, CDA and VVD had also pleaded for such an emergency fund in written questions.
