Richard K. will in any case be stuck until the beginning of November. The Court of Appeal in Leeuwarden just decided that. K. was sentenced to life imprisonment by the court in Assen last March for a double murder in Weiteveen. Today was the first public pro forma session in the appeal of this case.

Both K. and his lawyer were not present. The session was primarily a formality to determine whether the man should stay in custody. A directing session is planned for 5 November. Then his lawyer, but also the Public Prosecution Service, can submit research wishes.

K. shot the 44-year-old Ineke dead on January 16 last year. Then he also killed her 38-year-old man Sam in front of the 12-year-old son of Sam and Ineke. The double murder followed a fight that K. had with both victims about the parental home that they had bought from him a year earlier.

At the end of March he was sentenced by the court in Assen to a life sentence. “Unimaginable”, K. responded to the judge’s opinion. Two days later he announced that he would appeal through his lawyer. According to his lawyer, K. appeals because a life sentence is imposed while he is reduced to be imputable.

When the appeal will be dealt with in content, it is not yet known.
