Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos have secured the double title at the US Open.
The Spaniard and the Argentine defended three match balls against the British duo Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski and won 3: 6, 7: 6 (7: 4), 7: 5.
For the Granollers/Zeballos, which was placed in Flushing Meadows in five, was the second Grand Slam success after winning the Double competition of the French Open in June-the opponents in the final were also called Salisbury/Skupski. “If you play such games, it is so unfair that there is a winner and a loser,” said Zeballos.
The German top duo Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz, represented in the final last year, already left in the round of 16 in New York.
For them, the Davis Cup continues: With the German selection of national coach Michael Kohlmann, on September 12th and 13th, they are challenged in the fight for the final round in Tokyo against host Japan.
