She was one of the top performers and was on the pitch for FC Arsenal for years. After seven years, Lia Wälti is now breaking new ground.
The Swiss Lia Wälti stood for FC Arsenal on the lawn for the past seven years and was able to look forward to winning the championship there during her time. Finally, she also won the Champions League. Now the midfielder emotionally announced her farewell to the club and in a video on Instagram about how difficult it was to switch to Juventus Turin.
“Leaving this club is undoubtedly one of the hardest decisions that I have ever had to make in my life,” said the captain of the Swiss national team. She stated that arsenal was more for her than just a football club. As she spoke, Wälti fought tears several times and held a handkerchief in her hands.
The club had become a “home” for them and like a “second family”. The 32-year-old emphasized all the beautiful memories. When she came to the club in 2018, she had the right gut feeling. Now she is proud if she looks back on her time.
The association also posted farewell words to Wälti. Clare Wheatley, director of the association’s women’s football, explained: “Lia was an important part of our recent history in Arsenal. As one of the most talented midfielder of her generation, Lia gave our fans a lot of fun and supported our jersey with class. After seven special years, we wish us every success and she will always be welcome in North London.”
Juventus Turin also welcomed Wälti to Instagram and wrote in a statement that the Italian association is looking forward to the fact that the player can “contribute her talent and her years of experience”.
