The bankruptcy in Slovakia has left wounds – this was also clear by the hard statements of national coach Julian Nagelsmann and sports show expert Bastian Schweiniger.

Sebastian Hochrainer

Nagelsmann was highly emotional in the interview – no wonder after the weak performance that his team had previously shown at 0-2 in Slovakia. “The first five or six minutes of the second half were a bit brighter, the rest was very dark. I now dismantle nothing and nobody on TV, I do that internally, we have enough to discuss”said the 38-year-old.

Slovakia is DFB team an example of emotionality

Above all, one fact disturbed the national coach very much: “When we start with very simple things, namely emotionality – the opponent was superior to us. It is frightening that an opponent then brings significantly more quality with this emotionality than we do. If we do not manage this emotionality, we can close the book. Then quality does not matter.”

Nagelsmann apparently felt like in the DFB Cup after a third division had annoyed a Bundesliga club. “Why are there games, where, for example, Wiesbaden against Bayern Munich is 2-2? Not because of the quality of the players, but because of the emotionality. It has to be received by all players that it is not enough with an attracted handbrake, so there is this David-against-Goliath stories”he said in the sports show interview.

Fan reaction makes Schweinsteiger sad

Schweinsteiger was also stunned after the 90 minutes in Bratislava. “In no minute I believed that we will win, that is clearly a hard setback. Slovakia did it well, but we were really bad”said the sports show expert. “If you do not accept duels and react too slowly, a team like Slovakia can beat ourselves. We wanted to play a bit around it, but that doesn’t work. So you have to be happy if we qualify for the World Cup at all.”

In this constitution, Schweinsteiger even sees the qualification in the group with Slovakia, Northern Ireland and Luxembourg. “If we play the next games like this, you can forget it”said the 41-year-old, whom one thing was particularly fried: “When did I see the German fans whistled and waving away?

Nagelsmann: “Perhaps rely on less quality”

While the German supporters were rejected, Schweinsteiger and Nagelsmann gave hard words for the team. “I don’t want to hear anything about quality anymore, it is enough for me when we show emotions. We selected the best players from Germany, but maybe we have to rely on less quality, but on players who just throw everything in – that would have led to a better result today than if the best players have played”the national coach scolded.

But he also emphasized, he “I already have confidence in the team, but everyone has to understand that we have to tackle such a game like a Champions League semi-final-even if it sounds totally stupid.” His clear order for further World Cup qualification: “We now have to win all five games, also against Slovakia, and clearly. Otherwise we will play playoffs in March – if we want that, we have to perform like this.”
