Dietmar Hopp is the face behind the climb of TSG Hoffenheim. But the patron almost lost his life three years ago.

TSG Hoffenheim almost had to accept the loss of its partner Dietmar Hopp in 2022. As the 85-year-old revealed in an interview with the TV station Sport1, his state of health was in the meantime worrying. “In 2022 I felt very bad, I almost died. There was a phase in which I felt almost all the diseases that you can imagine. I also had to undergo a six -hour operation,” he said.

The heart of the entrepreneur was also particularly affected. “To my luck, I went to the clinic a day earlier – in the afternoon I suffered a cardiac arrest there. That would have been my end at home. I immediately came to the operating room and was operated on for six hours. It was two very difficult days before I was moved to another station,” said Hopp.

A few days later, Hopp received a pacemaker. “I’ve been much better since then,” he said. The 85-year-old can still be seen regularly in the stands at TSG Hoffenheim games and also acts in the background of the club.

“Actually, I don’t want to play a role anymore, but I have to because otherwise it doesn’t go forward. The TSG is and remains my baby,” he said. However, he does not have to interfere constantly because the structures in the club were right. “Most don’t have money,” he said.

TSG Hoffenheim is currently in order with three points from two games in the new season. Last year, the club from Kraichgau played around the relegation despite investing in the high double -digit million range and only saved itself late in the season.
