Due to internal tensions, Stefan Kretzschmar will no longer work for the Foxes Berlin from summer next year. The situation of coach Siewert remains unclear.
The Füchsen Berlin is facing a turning point: sports director Stefan Kretzschmar has announced not to extend his contract with the German champion. The 52-year-old will leave the club after this season. Kretzschmar made his decision public on Instagram.
“Public discussions about the strategic orientation are not good for the club. To take the media pressure and focus on our ambitious goals this season, I announced my decision today. By June 2026, I will work and fight with passion to achieve these goals,” wrote Kretzschmar on Tuesday afternoon.
The Berliners have experienced the most successful season of their club history in the past season. For the first time they won the German championship and also moved to the final of the Champions League. The Bundesliga top game against SC Magdeburg will be coming up next Saturday. The message from Kretzschmar’s farewell is therefore causing additional unrest.
It is still open how the situation affects coach Jaron Siewert. The 31-year-old’s contract also expires in summer. “Of course that concerns you,” he said last.
Kretzschmar has been working as a sports director at the Foxes since 2020. His most important transfer was the commitment of the Danish world-class player Mathias Gidsel. Kretzschmar won the Champions League with SC Magdeburg as an active man and won Olympic silver with the German national team in 2004.
