Eintracht Frankfurt’s football women have to clear a heavy chunk out of the way on the way to the league of the Champions League. It also goes against an old acquaintance.
In the qualification for the group phase of the Champions League, a particularly difficult opponent is waiting for the footballers of Eintracht Frankfurt. The BundesligaDe last season meets the Spanish runner-up Real Madrid in the playoff round-and thus one of the strongest teams in the lottery.
Particularly piquant: Merle Frohm’s goal is a former Eintracht player with Merle Frohms. Trainer Niko Arnautis made it clear: “We will do everything we can to survive against an absolute top team.”
The first leg will take place on September 11th in Frankfurt. A week later, the Hessians travel to Madrid to the second leg. Only the winner of the encounter qualifies for the reformed Champions League. The inferior club continues in the new Europe Women’s Cup.
Arnautis emphasized: “With Real Madrid, we definitely pulled the most demanding task that was possible. But this is Champions League, that is measuring with the best teams in Europe. This is what we wanted and what we worked hard for a season. We look forward to the two duels.”
