José Mourinho has been a coach at Fenerbahçe Istanbul since last year. Now his time is over the Bosphorus again.

Fenerbahçe Istanbul separated from José Mourinho after only 14 months. The Turkish top club announced this from the star coach on Friday and thus two days after the missed qualification for the Champions League. Fenerbahçe played the ticket for the premier class after a 0-1 defeat at Benfica Lisbon and is now only allowed to compete in the Europa League.

Mourinho took over the office as head coach for the 2024/2025 season, but had only become runner -up in his first season with the team behind Galatasaray. Fenerbahçe started the new season in the Turkish league with a draw and a win. Together with the failed Champions League qualification, apparently too little for those responsible.

The 62-year-old Mourinho is still considered one of the most successful active trainers in world football. He led FC Porto (2004) and Inter Milan (2010) to win the Champions League. He also secured the Europa League title twice (2003 with Porto, 2017 with Manchester United) and once the Conference League trophy (2022 with AS Rome). Mourinho and his clubs also became champions in their respective leagues several times. So he won the title in England three times with Chelsea FC alone. With Real Madrid, he also won the league in Spain. In 2010 he was named the world coach of the year by FIFA.
