A large meteorite has been auctioned in the Netherlands today. The 240 kilo heavy debris, which originated about 4.5 billion years ago and landed in Namibia tens of thousands of years ago, was hammered for 1.7 million euros during an auction in Noordwijk. The buyer is from America. For the selling party, observatory Mercury from Dordrecht, the proceeds are “far beyond expectations”.
