World champion Max Verstappen starts without a real sporting destination from the Formula 1 summer break.
“No, not really,” the world champion said before his home race on Sunday (3:00 p.m./RTL and Sky) when asked whether he still deals with his position in the title fight.
In the next three months it will be about understanding the Red Bull “better and simply getting the best out”.
Before the last ten racing weekends of the season, Verstappen is 97 points behind World Cup leaders Oscar Piatri in the McLaren, who in turn has nine points ahead of his teammate Lando Norris. The duo should make up the World Cup among themselves.
For Verstappen, after four World Cup titles as a result, an unusual season end phase is due. However, he does not fear motivation problems.
“It’s not that difficult,” he said on Thursday: “You know that such a winning streak ends at some point. Unfortunately, this is happening. But that’s no reason for frustration, that would only rob energy.”
